BEARSDEN

BearsdenBearsden is situated approximately 6 miles north of Glasgow city centre on the A809 road to Drymen and Loch Lomond.  Its traditional town centre known locally as ‘The Cross’, is an area with a high standard of amenities along with its heritage of Victorian and Edwardian stone-built houses.  The motto on the Bearsden town crest is ‘Bear the Gree’ which means to take first place.

‘Bearsden Cross’ is a small, traditional shopping centre which is vibrant and bustling.  There is a good range of shops, restaurants & cafes and services.  Most of the businesses tend to be local and independent and are committed to providing a high level of customer care and individuality.

Bearsden is close to and easy accessible from Glasgow.  There are 3 main free car park located close to the centre and there are bus stops on Drymen Road and Bearsden Rail Station is only a short walk away.

BISHOPBRIGGS

bishopbrigsBishopbriggs is located on the northern edge of Glasgow the town is on the main A803 road between Glasgow and Kirkintilloch. 

The centre is a mixture of modern and Victorian buildings with the Triangle shopping centre on the east side of Kirkintilloch road, housing a supermarket and several shops.  The west side is more traditional with shops on the ground floor of Victorian tenements, although there is also a pedestrianised area at Cross Court accommodating a variety of businesses.

There is a large car park at Morrison’s which allows up to 3 hours free parking and there is also Churchill Way public car park on Kenmure Drive which offers free parking all day.  The centre is well serviced by public transport and there is also a centrally located rail station on the main Edinburgh/Glasgow line.

KIRKINTILLOCH

kirkintillochKirkintilloch is situated 10 miles north of Glasgow on the Southern edge of the Kelvin Valley.  It is the principal town in East Dunbartonshire and is known as ‘The Canal Capital of Scotland’ as it is the only town along the Forth and Clyde corridor to have the canal passing through its town centre.

Kirkintilloch town centre has a wide range of shops and services and is the main shopping centre for the local catchment and surrounding area.  The main street is made up of Cowgate which accommodates the Regent Centre and Townhead which is joined by the Canal.

Kirkintilloch is close to Glasgow and is accessible from other town in east Dunbartonshire.  There is a regular bus service from Glasgow and Bishopbriggs and a half hourly train service from Glasgow to Lenzie Station.  There are a number of free car parks located around the town centre and also additional parking at the Regent Centre.

MILNGAVIE

milngavieMilngavie is located to the North West catchment area of Glasgow in the valley of the River Allander.  The town centre, locally known as ‘Milngavie Precinct’, 'The Village' or 'Milngavie Cross' is based around the original village and has been pedestrianised since the 1970’s.

‘Milngavie Precinct’ is a predominantly retail centre with a mix of small independent businesses and national companies.  The precinct is a vibrant centre of the community and also offers a wide range of other services from banks & building societies to travel agents, opticians and doctor & dental surgeries.

Milngavie is a gateway to Loch Lomond and the Trossachs and yet is close to Glasgow by road and rail. There is a regular bus service to Glasgow and the rail station is linked to the Precinct via a pedestrian underpass. The precinct is adjoined by a number of public car parks which provide free car parking close to the pedestrianised area.


Throughout the next 12 months, East Dunbartonshire Council will join with our partners and the people of Kirkintilloch to build the Kirkintilloch Town Centre Masterplan: a plan for how we’d like to see the town centre develop in the future. You can find out more about Master planning here
